Baobab Strengthens Leadership: Klaountia Toupala Named Head of Claims

Berlin, January 19, 2026 – Baobab Insurance, a leading MGA (Managing General Agent) for digital risks, announces the appointment of Klaountia Toupala as Head of Claims. With this strategic leadership hire, the company underscores its commitment to offering the entire value chain of modern digital risk insurance at the highest level from a single source—ranging from effective prevention to the settlement of complex claims. In her new role, Ms. Toupala will lead the entire claims process across Germany, Austria, and the Benelux countries.

Seamless Integration of Incident Response and Claims Management

With this appointment, Baobab is placing a clear focus on the further development of claims management. Klaountia Toupala will work closely with Baobab's specialized cybersecurity team to strategically evolve the claims process and the support provided to policyholders in the event of a loss. By holistically managing incident response and subsequent settlement, she ensures that technical expertise and legal claims management mesh perfectly. This guarantees Baobab's partners and customers even more efficient handling of complex claims from a single source.

"In an emergency, our customers do not expect isolated partial solutions, but a seamless integration of immediate technical assistance and excellent claims processing," says Vincenz Klemm, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Baobab Insurance. "With Klaountia Toupala, we are gaining a leader who is right at home at this intersection. Through her expertise, we are linking our cybersecurity team's incident response even more closely with legal claims management."

International Expertise from Swiss Re to ERGO

Klaountia Toupala brings extensive legal and strategic expertise from leading positions in the insurance industry:

  • Swiss Re Corporate Solutions: She was responsible for complex international primary and reinsurance large-scale claims in the millions (EMEA, APAC, LatAm) and developed and implemented claims and outsourcing processes.
  • ERGO Group: During her time at ERGO International and ERGO Germany, she supported market entry strategies in Asia (Turkey, India, South Korea) and assisted new companies in establishing operational processes in claims, underwriting, and product development.
  • Tech Experience: Most recently, she headed the Legal and Compliance department for the DACH region at ACT-1 Group - Agile-1 Germany GmbH (part of the US-based ACT-1 Group).

Convinced by the Baobab Approach

"Baobab is fundamentally rethinking insurance for digital risks. It is no longer just about financial compensation after an incident, but about actively reducing the probability of occurrence through technology," explains Klaountia Toupala. "The combination of deep-scan technology and a proactive security culture convinced me immediately. I look forward to continuing this innovative path in claims management and building a bridge between digital security and insurance coverage for our customers."

Prevention as a Success Model

Baobab consistently focuses on prevention rather than mere claims settlement. Through its proprietary deep-scan technology, the company identifies digital assets 3.2 times more effectively than traditional methods.

  • Efficiency: Baobab customers close security gaps 20 times faster than the market average and resolve vulnerabilities in their portfolio after an average of only three days.
  • Track Record: Proactive alerts regarding vulnerabilities have already protected customers from potential losses totaling several million euros.
  • Result: Baobab's loss ratio is significantly below the market average.

By hiring Klaountia Toupala, Baobab solidifies its position as a holistic partner for companies that rely on security and reliability in a volatile digital threat landscape.
